De Staic Research offers practical training, individual tuition and consultancy on AI in research and evaluation. We help researchers, students and organisational teams explore where AI can add value, how to assess its outputs and how to keep research decisions grounded in sound methods.
Sessions are relevant to healthcare, higher education, the care sector and organisations undertaking surveys, service evaluation or workforce research. The starting point is your research purpose and the tasks you need to undertake.
Practical uses across the research process
Planning: exploring and refining research questions, developing an initial evaluation framework and considering alternative designs or explanations.
Surveys and data collection: reviewing draft questions for clarity, developing interview or focus group topic guides, and identifying issues to investigate through piloting.
Analysis: exploring possible support for data preparation, drafting and checking statistical syntax, organising qualitative material and comparing AI-assisted interpretations with the source data and researcher analysis.
Reporting: developing report structures, adapting explanations for different audiences and reviewing whether claims are supported by the findings.
Critical appraisal and researcher judgement
Training includes practical exercises in checking outputs against original material, identifying unsupported statements and recognising when a plausible answer may be misleading. We consider what should be checked, how to document those checks and when a task is better undertaken without AI.
For qualitative research, we explore how AI-assisted summaries or coding suggestions relate to context, reflexivity and interpretation. For quantitative work, we consider how to check suggested methods, syntax and explanations against the study design and actual output.
Confidentiality, bias and transparent reporting
We discuss the information that is appropriate to use with a tool, relevant organisational policies and the need to agree arrangements before sharing research materials. Sessions also examine bias, the loss of context, reproducibility and how to record and disclose AI assistance in research and evaluation.
Training for teams and individual researchers
Tailored sessions are available online or in person for small groups of staff in corporations, healthcare, education and other organisations. Content can be introductory or focused on a particular research workflow, using agreed examples relevant to your team.
One-to-one tuition is available for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and professionals. Sessions help you develop your own understanding and skills, taking account of your institution’s or organisation’s requirements.
Consultancy linked to your project
We can help you assess possible uses of AI within a research or evaluation project, identify tasks worth testing and plan how outputs will be reviewed. This can sit alongside survey design and analysis support, SPSS training or NVivo training.
Discuss AI training or consultancy. Tell us about your research setting, current experience, the tasks you want to explore and whether you need individual support or team training.
